Free services and support for Queensland seniors who need assistance and social interaction

Research suggests older adults are the most likely demographic to experience feelings of loneliness and social isolation. They may also be living daily life without much-needed assistance, impacting their quality of life.

Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) has decided to make a difference by encouraging south-east Queenslanders 65+ to access their services, fee-free throughout spring.

According to AQ State Manager, Amy Prasad, “One in six Australians are aged over 65 years, around 1.3 million of whom are still living at home and require some assistance with daily activities.1

Additionally, data from 2018 suggests that at least 13% of adults over 65 experience loneliness, with those over 75 more likely to be lonelier than any other age group, and at least 8% of adults over 65 are socially isolated.2

“AQ is encouraging residents who live locally to each of our five Queensland-based Multi Service Centre’s, and are aged 65 years and over, to take advantage of our fee-free services to access the support they require,” said Ms Prasad.

“Whether it’s respite for primary carers in need of some personal time, food shopping for those living with mobility issues, or group outings to participate in sporting clubs or hobbies, we offer support services tailored to specific individual needs.”

AQ is offering ‘fee-free’ access to their aged care services up until November 30, 2022, for North and South Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba residents.

Their aged care services are designed for residents aged 65 and over, and their carers, including: flexible 24/7 respite services; tailored social support, such as shopping or practical assistance; and group social activities, including participation in community functions and local clubs.

AQ is encouraging all South-east Queensland residents, over 65, to contact their local Multi Service Centre and enquire about their services.

“All our clients play an active role in their care planning and the design and delivery of their services,” Ms Prasad said.

“Having a voice enables our clients to access the care and services they require, to support their overall physical and mental health and wellbeing.”

AQ understands the importance of ageing well. The organisation’s extensive, dedicated aged care services provide support to ageing residents in the community, as well as those living with dementia. In addition, AQ provides much-needed assistance to carers and family members.

Those wishing to register for complimentary access to our AQ aged care services up until November 30, 2022, should contact: 1800 639 331 or email enquiries@alzqld.org.au today.
