Most of us tend to kick-start our mornings with a cup of coffee or tea. Others turn to a can of coca cola for an extra caffeine hit mid-morning, at lunch, to quench the thirst, or for a refreshing beverage with dinner.
However, a new research study from Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark has revealed men who consume a litre of cola a day could be reducing their sperm count by 30 per cent, resulting in erectile dysfunction-issues.
Of the 2,554 male subjects involved in the study, those who consumed large volumes of coca cola had an average sperm count of 35 million per millilitre, compared with those who drank less cola, who had a sperm count of 56 million per millilitre.
Importantly, a sperm count of 35 million per millilitre falls under the normal range, and poses a larger, future risk of infertility.
The study revealed the sweetener in cola could damage the arteries in the genital area, preventing the free flow of blood through the muscle.
So guys, perhaps it’s time to re-think that next can of cola?
