For the first time in over 150 years, tonight we will experience a ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ – the result of a blue moon (the second full moon in a calendar month), a super moon and a blood moon (total lunar eclipse) all occurring at the same time.
If you live on the east coast of Australia, rejoice! You’re in prime viewing position (sorry WA). The eclipse will begin at around 11:50pm (in NSW, VIC & TAS, earlier for NT & QLD) on January 31 and last until around 12:30am on February 1. The moon will be visible at moon rise (from around 7:30pm).
Although this celestial event WILL be visible with the naked eye, grab your binoculars (and a picnic basket) for the ultimate experience.
Here’s hoping the clouds clear!
